Santa Maria a Monte: all the houses and apartments face on a spiraling street.
Walking through the streets we can found traces of the difensive system in Middle Age: archs, houses, towers, clock towers. castles and Chiesa Collegiata, which preserve valuable artworks.
In Santa Maria a Monte there is Osservatorio astronomico di Tavolaia. It is a town property and it is managed by Associazione astronomica “Isaac Newton”.
The observatory is opened regularly to the public for osservative evenings, conferences, guided tours and other events.
There is also Museo Casa Carducci, the house in whic Carducci lived for some years of his life. In this house the tragedy of the writer’s brother suicide.
The town has built a guided tour through photos, documents, books.
The village is divided into Montecalvoli, San Donato, Ponticelli, Cerretti and Falorni.
