MURO DI BAJ

Baj’s wall in Pontedera

Baj encapsulated freedom, science and technology in just an artwork

baj wall

Baj’s wall, inaugurated in  2006, is the artist’s last artwork, founder of “Nucleare” movement. In 1951 Enrico founded in Milan the Nuclear Movement, with the goal to study and analyse the relations with science, art and technology. These polycromatic playful collages located along Viale del Risorgimento represent the mechanics to which it risks to be reduced the man.

The artwork starts with an esaltation of the value of the painting and freedom with the following sentence “Painting is a road that I chose towards freedom. It is a pratice of freedom”. Paople have construed  as a symbol of wanderlust, of moving away.

In 2003 Baj sent to the mayor of Pontedera the project composed of 11 collages. Sketches are visible nearby the wall, at Centro per l’Arte Otello Cirri.

The Vespa and the Butterfly

From 18 July to 11 October 2015 the Piaggio Museum will host the exhibition named “ The Vespa and the Butterfly. A century of Butterfly at the Piaggio Museum ”. After a little more than 100 years from its first performance in 1904, this exhibition celebrates one of Giacomo Puccini’s best beloved operas, and it is above all the expression of a determination to “network” a series of excellent bodies in Tuscany (and further afield) with the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera, temple of another undisputed icon of Made in Italy: the Vespa. On show an elegant selection of stage costumes, sketches, and set designs from the archives and collections of the prestigious partners of the Piaggio Foundation, that retrace one century of performances of the Madama Butterfly on a symbolic red carpet.

Era River

Leaving from Peccioli , we go down the steep via di Greta. In less than a kilometer we get to the gravel bed of Era River characterized by spontaneous vegetation, large and rich variety of birds.
So we continue along the river up to the Molino di Ripabianca . From Le Piagge, where the suggestive vision of tuff cliffs that run along the municipal road Peccioli-Fabbrica follows us on the left, we can make a road variation of up to Ripabianca , to be used in case of flooding of the river.

After approximately four kilometers we start to go up to reach the municipal road with which we reach the charming town of Montecchio and continue, still with the dirt road, in the countryside of the area of Serre, which has varied crops and is natural habitat of various game species. There are two ways of traveling to this area; one is from Costie and the other takes you back to Peccioli through the road of Madonna delle Serre , named after the namesake church in this area, and characterized by a fresh and hospitable little forest, place of pilgrimage the first Sunday of May.
