Strawberries are a must if you are in Terricciola. You can find them during the “Festival della Fragola” which is every year. Inside municipal garden there are other dishes with strawberries, you can also have a local wine tasting which is really good! This wine won a national and world wide prize.

Morrona is an hamlet of the community of Terricciola

HISTORY

The first notices of Morrona are date back to year 1000. At the time under the control of the Cadolingi’s counts. In 1294, Morrona was used as refuge of ghibellini. All follow Guido da Montefeltro podestà of Pisa, they undertook a bloody war against the guelfi established in Peccioli.

In 1496 it fell under the Florentine control. In 1833 Morrona counted 460 citizens.

Monuments and Place of Interest

  • Abbey and church of Santa Maria, it’s an important religious complex of the territory,it was founded in 1089 by the counts Ugo della Gherardesca. it was suppressed in 1482, it was residence of the bishops of Volterra. The actual church was built in 1152, when it was decided to transfer the ancient monastery.
  • Church of San Bartolomeo, the parish church of the hamlet is date back to the medieval period, but the facade show the signs of  nineteenth-century remakes. It has the unusual irregular largeness of two lateral naves, testimony of the extension of primordial nave. In the presbytery, it conserve the “Martirio di San Bartolomeo”, of Tuscan school of the first middle of 1700.

Villa Gherardi Del Testa

At the beginning of the hamlet of Terricciola is located the villa Gherardi Del Testa abode of farmland of the Pisan noble family. It was built in 1660 by the friar Sebastiano Gherardi. In 1814 in that house born Tommaso Gherardi Del Testa, he became a famous comedy writer.

DESCRIPTION

In the course of time the building was exposed to various structural modifications, between them the most important modification was that in the second half of 1700 with the construction of an ample segmental arch that link the opposite space of chapel with the rear square that it show to the forest. The last substantial intervention date back to 1883, when it was added a factory in the left side of villa.

Today the building present a systematic arrangement from the point of view landscape, with a terraced garden at east and at west a nineteenth-century garden. The salon is richly decorated with stucco, frescos and architecture of trompe-l’œil. The overdoor are painted with rural scene inside of ovals, whereas on the sides there are cartouches and putti. The decorations of the wood structures of the ceiling represent a urban setting of fantasy. In the part of nineteenth-century the rooms are decorated at tempera with the motif of the.

Gimonda Farm – Terricciola

Gimonda Farm is a small family company with headquarters in Terricciola, a typical country, deep in the green hills of Pisa. Vineyards are expand for 4 hectares, they’ve a mean age of 45 years and they’re set out at East-southeast.

Traditional vineyards are: ‘Sangiovese’, ‘Canaiolo’ and ‘Colorino a bacca rossa’; ‘Trebbiano’ and ‘Colombana a bacca bianca’.

 

Keeping of plants:

The keeping of plants is Guyot : after plants maturing, they suffer an hard thinning.

The grapes collections happen by hand.

Later there is a fermentation, checked for 15-20- days. All the wine steps happen in inox steel and ‘cemento vetrificato’ containers. Vicerè has a next improvement within barriques.

Sangiovese:

Azienda Agricola Gimonda Sangiovese is the main vineyard and it has small parts of Canaiolo and Colorino. Both wines are elegant, solar and tasty. They smell god and they’re rich in fruits and minerals.

The wines attract the flavour of red-meat, the fire feeling, the friends, but also the calm. The former is flagrant, dynamic and cold to drink. The latter is warm, enchanting and it smells so good.

Te wines carry the land in their glasses and they’re made with great passion, respect of the steps making and the attention and patient in the wine cellar.

Visit at the farm Castelvecchio with tastings

Castelvecchio Farm is located in Terricciola, a little village with Etruscan origings. It is about  a 24-hectares area destined to vineyards and olice trees.

The farm, managed by Claudia, produces oil and wines ITG (Typical Tuscan Geographic Indication)

The farm welcomes tourists and it invites them to visit the farm and taste some typical products. Visiting the farm you can learn the passages which are behind a simple glass when it is made with passion and patience. Their purpose is to transmit some traditions about Tuscan culture.

ALL VISITS INCLUDE:

  • Start of the visit with a view of the vineyard and story about the farm.
  • Guided tour into the basement, with explanation of the passages from the grape to the bottle of wine.
  • Tasting of our wines and oils. Some types could be: White IGT wine “IL PICCHIO”, Rosato di Toscana IGT “IL TOCCO”, Red wine DOC “LE BALZE”, Terre di Pisa Sangiovese DOC “LE COLLINE” and Vin Santo from Chianti “ARMIDA” .

CASTELVECCHIO’S TASTINGS

  • 1) basic tasting: wines tasting with a teste of bread, oil and (typical tuscan dry biscuits) with Vin Santo. Tasting will be held standing with glass chalice.

It takes place everyday from Monday to Friday 10:00 – 12:00 and 15:00 – 19:00
On Saturday and Sunday only on booking

  • 2) wine and typical products tasting: wines tasting with tastes of bread, oil and cantucci with il Vin Santo, then a dish of cold cuts and cheeses.  Visitor are sat in a table and the wines are explained and served with glass chalices.
  • 3) ligth lunch: wines tasting with tastes of bread, oil and cantuccini with Vin Santo, then a dish of cold cuts and cheeses and other Tuscan products by the season. First course pasta-based or other dish from typical Tuscan tradition. Visitors are sat in a table and the wines are explained and served with glass chalices.

All tastings are customizable Tutte le degustazioni sono personalizzabili on the base of specific demands of the client. The complete visit requires around 1 hour, it is possible to have the visit also in English language.

Complex of hypogaeums in Terricciola

A place of interest restored entirely by volounteers

Hypogaeums in Terricciola are a place of interest. It is composed of 200 graves abandoned graves and now restored with a sort of museum.  The graves were restored by a group of volounteers without the town’s help.

Era River

Leaving from Peccioli , we go down the steep via di Greta. In less than a kilometer we get to the gravel bed of Era River characterized by spontaneous vegetation, large and rich variety of birds.
So we continue along the river up to the Molino di Ripabianca . From Le Piagge, where the suggestive vision of tuff cliffs that run along the municipal road Peccioli-Fabbrica follows us on the left, we can make a road variation of up to Ripabianca , to be used in case of flooding of the river.

After approximately four kilometers we start to go up to reach the municipal road with which we reach the charming town of Montecchio and continue, still with the dirt road, in the countryside of the area of ​​Serre, which has varied crops and is natural habitat of various game species. There are two ways of traveling to this area; one is from Costie and the other takes you back to Peccioli through the road of Madonna delle Serre , named after the namesake church in this area, and characterized by a fresh and hospitable little forest, place of pilgrimage the first Sunday of May.

Randonnèe M.T.B of Valdera 2014

The proposed TOUR covers the entire landscape of Valdera, with a route that 95% developed with ancient paths and dirt roads.

Leaving from PONTEDERA, the city of Vespa, we ride through great natural sceneries such as:


  • – The hills of TERRICCIOLA;
  • – The theater of silence in LAJATICO;
  • – The Lake of Gattero in FABBRICA / PECCIOLI;
  • – LE SERRE with its ancient church.

    We pass through villages such as:


    • – BADIA of MORRONA;
    • – CASTELFALFI, with its fortress and its golf course;
    • – Legoli, where you can admire the wonderful chapel of Santa Catarina with frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli;
    • – TOIANO, with its ravines;
    • – Other beautiful landscapes that only the Tuscany countryside, and in particular the VALDERA, can show to the visitors.

      The long route (Red) is 115 km, difference in height of 2,100 meters.

      The middle path (Yellow) is 70 km, difference in height 920 meters.

      The short path (Blue) is 42 km, difference in height 650 meters.

      INSPIRATION
      The event, in line with the directives of ARI, will pursue the following purposes: self-sufficiency, affordability, simplicity, security, contact with nature.

      The event was inspired by the slow travelling on nature trails

      ORGANIZATION
      The ownership of the event is the GSRC Galimberti, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pontedera and the collaboration of G.S. Treggiaia, POL la Perla “Razzi e Mozzi” and Borra Bike with ARI audax randonnée Italy.

      The event will adopt the Regulation ARI / MTB.

      Preliminary checks from 07.00 to 08.00 at the Club Galimberti in Via Galimberti, Pontedera.

      Start from 8:00am to 08.10am from GSRC GALIMBERTI.

      WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

      Cyclists and cycle tourists members with papers in order for the year 2014 ARI, or bodies recognized by CONI UISP; ACSI; CSAIN; ASI; CSI; ENDAS; FITRI, and also free hikers equipped with medical certificate, bike Mountain bike and helmet (mandatory). after filling the release paper ARI.

      REGISTRATION

      We accept MAX 300 people. The registration fee is € 10.

      Entries close automatically when we reach the number of 300 paying cyclists, there is no possibility of pre-registrations.

      THE ROUTE
      40 / 70 / 115 km, short, medium and long, as for the ARI / MTB standards.

      The “randonnée valdera” will make a great added value to the event, as it allows cyclists to follow paths and roads of GPN and horse trail through hills, woods and streams.

      The route is marked as “Randonnée valdera”.

      NB: Hikers enrolled arriving at the refreshment / control “LE SERRE” after 13:00pm will not be allowed to continue in the long route.

      “We remind that the long path requires a good physical condition.”

      Refreshments:
      There are 4 food spots on the path next the checkpoints. (Terricciola, Le Serre, Castelfalfi and Legoli) – and a pasta party at the finish.

      RECOGNITION
      The GSRC Galimberti will distribute to all the cyclists who will get the approval ARI / MTB (40 – 70 – 115 Km) a scroll by the artist Giancarlo Calamai reproducing the logo of the event.

Alta Valdera Park

The “Parco Alta Valdera” (Alta Valdera Park) is a homogeneous territory in the south-east of the Province of Pisa, near Volterra and clote to the provinces of Florence and Siena, therefore strategically placed in a particular artistic context. valdera
Thermal baths (Cascina, Uliveto and Montecatini), and coastal towns are easily reachable from here. For those who love sports in contact with nature, there are different paths you can walk, run, ride by bike and horse, proceeding through the territory of Valdera.

Moments of leisure and cultural studies are possible by visiting the prehistoric park, the Zoological Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the astronomical observatory, the museum of icons, the “mofeta”, museums of civilization and of rural work.
